Jacqueline Kennedy once said that “There are many ways to enlarge your world. Love of books is the best of all.” Reading a broad and diverse range of books helps to hone one’s ideas, style and taste. Napoleon Bonaparte famously commented, “Show me a family of readers, and I will show you the people who move the world.”  The library has several eclectic new books available to explore. My Little Michigan Kitchen: Recipes and Stories from a Homemade Life Lived Well by Mandy McGovern.  The author shares recipes for Michigan classics such as UP North Pasties, Detroit Coney Dogs, Tart Cherry Pie and many others. Full-color photographs accompany nearly every recipe. In addition, McGovern shares stories of her adventures in Michigan and some gorgeous landscape photos of this great state.

Mysterious Michigan: The Lonely Ghost of Minnie Quay, the Marvelous Manifestations of Farmer Riley, the Devil in Detroit & More by Amberrose Hammond.  Mediums, murders, monsters and more are all part of Michigan’s strange and sometimes supernatural history.  Hammond presents several odd and unusual tales from Michigan’s vivid and thrilling past.

Her Hidden Genius: A Novel by Marie Benedict. This book tells the story of Rosalind Franklin, a women scientist who sacrificed her life to discover the nature of human DNA.  Franklin’s world-changing contributions were hidden by the men around her but her relentless drive advanced the science of DNA to new horizons.
