October 24, 2023 By Marcellus News Leave a Comment

November 25, 1958 ~ October 17, 2023

With breaking hearts, we announce the passing of Kerry Lee Janing after a 4-year battle with cancer. He passed away on October 17, 2023, in Springhill, Florida, with family present. Born on November 25, 1958, Kerry was the fourth and youngest child born to Paul Janing, Jr., and Carita Jacque (Skidmore) Janing.

Kerry graduated from Marcellus High School and went to work in the building and trades industry. He started Vicksburg Roofing and Siding, which was a successful business that supported his family. He also refurbished houses in his spare time. In 2001, after straight line winds tore up the family home and property, Kerry took this opportunity to improve and expand Cranberry Lake Campground, a campground started by his parents in the 1950s.

Kerry was full of life, ambitious, thoughtful, helpful, hardworking, kind and loving.

He was an avid outdoorsman. As a child, he enjoyed swimming, fishing, boating, hunting and trapping. In his later years, he took up gardening, scuba diving, snorkeling and scalloping. He has always had a faithful canine companion.

Kerry is survived by his children: Lindsey (Jay) Calton of Tennessee, Lisa Janing and Jared Janing, both of Michigan; Leanne Janing and Alayna Janing, both of Florida; three grandchildren, Kayde, Liam and Kyren, and several nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his sisters Kim Larsh and Karla Janing, stepmother Sandra Wiseman, stepsisters Sue Wiseman, Jamie Stafne, and Malisa Steil. And his favorite canine companion, Nippy.

He was preceded in death by both parents and brother, Kevin.

Kerry had an awesome, friendly personality and made friends wherever he went. He was a loyal friend to many. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 2, at his house followed by a gathering at the Weeki Wachee Area Club. A second Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at Cranberry Lake Campground, Marcellus.
