Marcellus Director of Bands Katy Essex reports that six Marcellus band students performed recently at District Solo and Ensemble with three advancing to State.
This year’s participants were Kylie Kozik, Edriana Madiam, Jasmine Davis, Mackenzie Schuur, Megan Cocanower, and Lyssa Robson.
Advancing to the state level are Kylie Kozik, trumpet solo; Edriana Madiam, trombone solo; and Jasmine Davis, marimba solo.
The basic structure of State Solo & Ensemble Festival is the same as District, but the students are held to a higher standard. Soloists in grades 10 through 12 must perform Proficiency Exams which include scales and sight reading.
The state event is scheduled for March.

6th Grade Band
The 6th grade band is using practice cards again for the third marking period. Practice cards are logs of what each student has practiced and how many minutes were practiced. The goal is to get 60 minutes of playing time each week; of course students are encouraged to practice more. Practice cards must be signed by a parent or guardian. Cards are passed out each Monday and are due the following Monday. This is 25% of each marking period grade.
