Marcellus Community Schools recently asked for parent, staff, and community input about how to best utilize anticipated American Recovery Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP- ESSER) funds. These one- time funds will reimburse schools for the added costs associated with COVID-19, including to support a safe return to in-person instruction and address the academic, social, emotional and mental health needs of students.
The survey asked each respondent to identify the top five uses for the emergency funds. The top five suggestions, as identified by those who completed the survey, are listed below.
1. Deliver interventions to struggling students and provide small group instruction
2. Strategies to address learning gaps caused by the pandemic
3. Ensure all students receive high quality instructional materials
4. Provide social emotional learning opportunities such as counseling, mental health, and wellness resources to students, staff and families
5. Facilities- air quality, health and safety
The district’s plan must be submitted to the Michigan Department of Education by December 15. Many thanks to those who completed the survey. Stakeholder input will be used to determine how the district can use the funds to best support student needs.
Congratulations to the Marcellus Community Schools Transportation Department! They recently received recognition from the Michigan State Police for achieving a 100% bus inspection pass rate.
