
The Marcellus Community Schools Board of Education held their regular, monthly meeting on May 9. The board approved accounts payable in the amount of $61,007, heard reports from administrators, and approved the hire of two new employees.
Principal Wagner updated the board on upcoming senior events. Senior Honors Night is scheduled for May 26, at 7:00 p.m., and the senior breakfast and graduation practice will take place on May 27, at 9:00 a.m. On June 5, the Class of 2022 will host Baccalaureate at 2:00 p.m. and graduation will follow, at 3:00p.m.
Volinia Outcome School principal Amy Anderson announced details for alternative education seniors’ commencement ceremony. The event is scheduled for June 3, at 11:00a.m., and will include a luncheon for graduates and their families.
Principal Tracy Cropsey provided information about year-end events for middle school students. A semi-formal farewell dance will take place on June 3, from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. In addition, on June 6, middle school parents are invited to the Student Showcase and Awards Ceremony. The awards program will begin at 6:30p.m. Parents who would like to browse student work displays and shop the book fair may do so starting at 6:00 p.m.
Elementary principal Sarah Bischoff reported on M-Step testing which will continue throughout the month, as well as upcoming end-of-year field trips. The Wildcat Walk is set for May 27.
Athletic Director Price updated the board on upcoming athletic events and congratulated ten seniors who earned SW10 Scholar Athlete honors. To earn the recognition, senior athletes must attain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25, play at least two sports, earn at least four varsity letters, and participate in a sport their senior year.

Under new business, the board adopted a resolution in support of the Heritage Southwest Intermediate School District’s 2022-23 general fund budget. The board also hired Douglas Crawford to fill the technology position left vacant due to the upcoming retirement of long-time employee Dianna Olson. In addition, the board hired local resident Abby Asmus for an Agriscience teaching and FFA chapter advisor position to begin this fall.
In other news, don’t forget to bring your lawn chair or a blanket to enjoy the outdoor band concert on May 25, at 7:00 p.m. The event will take place at the football field and is free and open to the public.
The third-grade swim camp is back! The program’s purpose is to teach swim skills and water safety to all participating Marcellus third graders. The district, in conjunction with the YMCA, is proud to offer the program which is slated to begin on May 31.
