It is undeniable that COVID-19 has created significant challenges for school communities. In addition to increased rates of physical illness, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns are also on the rise. These issues can often lead to increased absenteeism and reduced academic achievement. Marcellus Community Schools hopes to confront some of these challenges by providing health support through the services of a school nurse.

I am pleased to introduce Mrs. Karen Warner (left) who will serve the district in the school nurse role for the remainder of this school year. A veteran registered nurse, Warner comes to us with thirty-four years of experience and expertise. Warner will assist with physical, mental, emotional and social health needs to support student wellness and achievement. She will also help manage students who have chronic health conditions and students with disabilities.
Warner’s nursing experience includes twenty-eight years as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Borgess, Bronson, Blodgett, and South Haven hospitals. She finished out her career as a case manager for multiple practices, including obstetrics, general surgery, vascular surgery and infectious disease. Warner retired from Bronson in 2018.
For the past few years, Warner has assisted Marcellus Community Schools as a substitute teacher, summer school instructor, and advisor to the after school sewing club. Marcellus Community Schools is thrilled to have Warner move into this new, important nursing role.
Warner’s office will be located at the elementary school, but services will be available for students in all buildings. She will be available all day on Mondays and Wednesdays, and from noon to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She can be reached by calling 646-9209.
