Joyce Ray McKenzie, age 87, of Gainesville, GA passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Joyce was born December 21, 1937 to the late Alfred and Dorothy Ray in St. Joseph, MI. She attended Michigan State University and later graduated from Rivier University with a degree in Paralegal Studies.

Throughout her life, Joyce seized every opportunity to volunteer and support the causes she was passionate about, including working with the Chelmsford Art Society in Chelmsford, MA, the Harrison Food Bank in Harrison, ME, and advocating for seniors across the state of Massachusetts. Her faith was the center point of her life and she was actively involved in her church homes in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Florida, and Georgia. When not volunteering, Joyce loved spending time “at the lake” with her children and grandchildren on Crystal Lake in Harrison, Maine. She was also an avid painter, quilter, traveler, reader, gardener, and lifelong learner.
Joyce will be remembered for her love of her family, and how easily she made and nurtured friendships, with many of her strongest friendships spanning multiple decades.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, David McKenzie of Gainesville, GA; son, Carl McKenzie of Gainesville, GA; daughter Kathleen (James) McKenna of York, ME; son Paul (Holly) McKenzie of Columbia Falls, MT; granddaughter Taylor (Gabriel) Kelly of Roswell, GA; granddaughter Kathryn (Christopher) Brown of York, ME; grandson Sean (Amanda) McKenna of Melrose, MA; grandson Ian McKenzie of Columbia Falls, MT; granddaughter Ilah McKenzie of Columbia Falls, MT; Brother John (Diana) Ray; brother-in-law Durrell McKenzie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law Melissa McKenzie, and sister-in-law Marsha McKenzie
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Oakwood, Georgia on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Andy Seibert officiating.
