Linda Marie Seelye

November 8, 2022 By Marcellus News Leave a Comment

April 16, 1937 ~ November 1, 2022

Linda Marie Seelye, 85, of Marcellus and Three Rivers, passed away Monday, November 1, 2022, at Safe Haven Assisted Living surrounded by her loving family.

Born April 16, 1937, in Three Rivers, the daughter of Berwyn and Marian (Himebaugh) Flack, she graduated from Mendon High School with the Class of 1955.

Growing up a farm girl, Linda often participated in 4-H at the St. Joseph County Grange Fair. During her senior year of high school, she was showing dairy cows when she laid eyes on Roger T. Seelye, who had just returned home from the Korean War and was bringing pigs to the fair as part of his studies at Michigan State College. Love at first sight led to marriage on October 22, 1955.

A year and a half later, Roger and Linda purchased a house in Nicholsville, where they lived the remainder of their married life. They raised a wide variety of farm animals and developed wonderful relationships with their neighbors. She continued participation with the 4-H program as a group leader and sheep superintendent at the Cass County Fair.

Linda worked as a reading aide for Marcellus Schools and later for the Department of Social Services as a child support specialist in St. Joseph, Van Buren and Cass counties. She was a dedicated employee who made lifelong friends among her colleagues.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, painting, and cooking. Friends stopping by always found Amish friendship bread and coffee set out on the table. Roger did woodworking, and she would paint his creations. Every year they gave miniature bird carvings to their family and friends; each Valentine’s Day, anniversary, and Christmas he made special gifts for her.

Extremely competitive and super smart, Linda was a voracious reader and an avid player of online games and quizzes. She loved her jewelry and having her hair done just right. She also had a wonderful sense of humor.

Family and friends were very important to her. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren, especially taking them on an annual fishing trip.

Remaining to cherish Linda’s memory are her husband, Roger T. Seelye Sr. of Three Rivers; sons, Roger T. Seelye Jr. of Wayland and Berwyn Arthur (Amy) Seelye of Otsego; daughter, Joyce (Steve) Gyllstrom of Three Rivers; grandchildren, Alex (Ashley) Gyllstrom, Eric (Leslie) Gyllstrom, Ellie Seelye, and Jack Seelye; step-granddaughters, Abigail (Bryan) Bellamy and Molly (Mike) Werner; great-grandchildren, Gwen Gyllstrom and one due in February; nine step-great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Flack (George Summers) of Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her sister Suzanne.

In accordance with family wishes, cremation will be conducted, and a memorial service held in the spring.

Donations in Linda’s memory may be directed to the Cass County Fair Sheep Department. Envelopes are available at and may be sent to Hohner Funeral Home.
