Newberg Township December 2021 General Meeting

The General Board Meeting, held at the Newberg Township Fire Department was called to order on December 13th 2021 at 7pm.

   Minutes from the November 8th meeting were approved as written.

Reports: Assessor: Nothing to report

Ordinance: Nothing to report

Ambulance: Ambulance Director Rifenberg reported thirty-five calls for the month of November; three-transfers, fourteen-Newberg, ten-Porter, three-Penn, one-Marcellus, one-Three Rivers, one-Dowagiac, one-Constantine and one to St. Joe County. Devin Caudill was appointed as the new EMS Assistant Director. Fire: Chief Forrester reported four calls for the month of November; three-Newberg and one Porter.

Sexton: Nothing to report. Rifenberg handed out the current cemetery ordinance for the board to review for the January meeting.

Building: Nothing to report.

Treasurer: Report is available for the month of November.

County Commissioner: Not present.

Public Comment on Non-agenda items: A representative from the Cass County Conservation District was present to discuss happenings in the area. Residents can visit cassccdistrict.org to learn more about the Cass County Conservation District.

Correspondence: Noted misc. correspondence.

Unfinished Business: Mass Gathering Ordinance: Nothing new to report.

New Business: MTA Training: Clerk Duff reported that the Michigan Township Association offers training for newly elected officials for the Supervisor and Trustee to look into. Discussion followed regrading training.

2022 Road Projects: Rifenberg and Covey traveled the roads in Newberg Township to look at what needed to be worked on. The township is waiting on contracts from the road commission before moving forward with decisions for 2022 projects.

American Rescue Act Funds Account: The township received the first allocation of funds from the CLFRF program last month in the amount of $84,000.00. Motion made by Van Heukelum, supported by Rifenberg, to open a new account at G.W. Jones Bank for the CLFRF funds with signers Jessica Rifenberg, Carrie Van Heukelum, Jill Blackburn and Amanda Norton-Duff. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.

Landfill Pass Program for 2022: Motion made by Duff, supported by Van Heukelum, to continue with allowing two passes per parcel (with up to four pass total for multiple parcel owners) for the 2022 calendar year. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. Passes are available by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to Newberg Township Clerk at PO BOX 37 Jones, Mi. 49061.

Bills to Pay: Motion made by Covey, supported by Duff, to pay the bills for the month of November in the amount of 12,881.30. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. Public Comment: Sheriff Behnke was present and shared information going on around the county.

Trustee Rifenberg presented a plaque and card to Mrs. Norton for Willis Norton and his twenty-two years serving as the Newberg Township Supervisor.

Motion made by Covey, supported by Van Heukelum, to adjourn the meeting at 8:07pm. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
