
The February 10, 2025, General Board Meeting was called to order at 7pm at the Newberg Township Fire Department. Present: Harvey, Blackburn, Duff and Covey. Absent: Griffiths. Motion made by Duff, supported by Harvey, to approve the minutes from the January 13th General Meeting, January 22nd, January 29th and February 6th Special Meetings. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Reports:
Assessor: Nothing to report.
Ordinance: Enforcement officer shared updates with current cases. Middleton-Pompey had concerns about a case that has been open for over a year. This case, if the township decides to move forward with, would cost the township $60,000.00 to $70,000.00 to clean up since the property owner has not made any effort of their own. At this time, the board decided not to move forward with this case because the township does not have the funds to put towards this clean up property. Middleton-Pompey said she does not need motion, just needed to discuss with the board what they would like her to do.
Ambulance: Ambulance Director Schrader reported twenty-nine (29) calls for the month of January; twenty-three (23) Newberg, three (3) Porter and three (3) mutual aid.
Fire: Fire Chief Forrester reported eight (8) calls for the month of January; six (6) Newberg, one
(1) Porter and one (1) mutual aid Marcellus which was a disregard. Sexton: Nothing to report.
Building: Report read by Clerk Duff.
Treasurer: Report available for the month of January. County Commission: Not present.
Public Comment: None at this time.
Announcements: None at this time.
Unfinished Business:
Mass Gathering and Noise Ordinance: Enforcement Officer is working with the township attorney to make changes to the ordinances that would help allow the township enforce fees for violations. With the current ordinance, wording has made it hard for the township to enforce violators. They will work on gathering information and bring it to the board to review hopefully by the March meeting.
EDP Solar: Clerk Duff spoke with Ali Stano from EDP Renewables. Stano stated she does not have any new updates but will be at the March meeting to answer any questions.
New Business:
Cass County Historical Society: Discussion was had about the future of the old township hall after construction is complete of the new hall.
Road Contracts: Nothing new to report at this time. Waiting on contracts from Cass County Road Commission.
Bills to Pay: Motion made by Covey, supported by Harvey, to pay the bills for the month of February in the amount of $25,788.00. Motion carried by voice vote.
Motion made by Covey, supported by Harvey, to adjourn meeting at 7:48pm. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
