
The Newberg Township Board met at the Newberg Township Fire Department in regular session on September 8th, 2025 at 7:00pm.
Supervisor Covey led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

Additions/Deletions to Agenda

Approval of the Agenda
Motion made by Duff, supported by Covey, to approve the September 8th, 2025 Newberg Township General Meeting Agenda. Motion Carried by voice vote.
Approval of Minutes
Motion made by Griffiths, supported by Harvey , to approve the August 11th, 2025 General Meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Reports
Assessor: Motion made by Griffiths, supported by Duff, to approve the Resolution confirming the five year Special Assessment Roll for Driskel Lake. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Ordinance: Supervisor Covey shared current blight cases.
Ambulance: Director Griffith reported twenty-eight (28) calls for the month of August. Griffiths reported we have a couple new volunteers that recently passed their EMT state test.
Fire: Chief Forrester reported eight calls for the month of August; seven (7) Newberg and one (1) Porter.
Sexton: Sexton Rifenberg reported two (2) ash burials and one (1) full burial for the month of August.
Building: Read by Clerk Duff for the month of August.
Treasurer: Collecting taxes at the hall Sept. 11th 5-7pm Sept 15th 9-12 and 1-5pm.
County Commission: Not present.
Solar Project: Not present.
Public Comment (non-agenda items)
None at this time.
Correspondence/Announcements
The Historical Society of Cass County will have a meeting and presentation on Tuesday September 16th at 6:30pm at the Newberg Township Hall.
Unfinished Business
1. New Township Hall: Nothing new to report. Supervisor reported the building inspector, Joe Wickey, stated that he doesn’t see any major issue but will come back out and inspect the project once complete framing is done.
2. Township Lake Ordinances: Nothing new to report. Supervisor Covey will be meeting with the owners of Happy Landing, along with the enforcement officer, later this week.
3. Harwood Lake Cemetery: Sexton Rifenberg shared that Scott Larkin, resident whose property boarders Harwood Lake Cemetery, would like to donate some of his land to the cemetery. Rifenberg and Larkin believe it would add about 40 or so lots to the current Harwood Lake Cemetery. Larkin only request is to have some lots given to their family. He will contact the supervisor about moving forward with contracts with the township.
New Business
1. Cass County Mobile Clinic: Behnke opened up discussion about the Cass Family Mobile Health Clinic. Once the mobile unit it operating they will serve the Cass County Area and be in different communities a couple days each month to provide medical services in the area. For more information go to cassfamilyclinic.org. The mobile unit is looking for a location in Jones that they can park the mobile unit at least once a month to provide services. They do need indoor access for the winter months to be able to do paperwork and gathering information for the client before clients would go on mobile for services. Township board will schedule a special meeting regarding location approval for the Cass Family Mobile Unit in the Jones area. Special meeting schedule for Wednesday September 24th, 2025 at 5:00pm at the Newberg Township Hall.
Bills to Pay
Motion made by Covey, supported by Griffiths, to approve the bills for the month of September in the amount of $119,851.07. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Public Comment
Public comments were had regrading some blight concerns, Cass County Mobile unit and the drain district special assessment for Newberg Township residents.
