Paul Edward Kubik, born on June 19, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who leaves behind a rich legacy of hard work, commitment to community, and love for the great outdoors.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Paul served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. His service was recognized with several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. After his military career, he became an engineer, enjoying a fulfilling career with Grand Elk Railroad. Later, Paul lent his talents to the former Mater-Ralston Funeral Home, where he continued to serve his community even in retirement.
Paul was well-known for his industrious spirit; he was always doing something, whether it was fixing up old Willy’s Jeeps or repairing and selling windmills. A true outdoorsman at heart, he found immense joy in fishing and hunting, and he cherished his time spent camping and hiking on his property in New Mexico.
Paul had a passion for collecting, particularly arrowheads and interesting rocks gathered during his travels out West. His love for animals was evident through his bond with his beloved dog, Chester, who was often by his side wherever he went.
An active member of his community, Paul was a proud member of the Marcellus VFW Post 4054 and a devoted member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, where his voice could often be heard in the choir.
Paul is survived by his wife, Lourdes “Luly” Cisneros-Kubik; his daughter, Samantha (David) Vandersloot; and his three granddaughters, Zoe, Oona, and Freyja Vandersloot. He is also remembered by his sisters, Donna Lustrow and Karyn (Jeff) Straman, along with extended family and numerous dear friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Mary Kubik, and his brother, James Kubik.
Paul Edward Kubik will be deeply missed by all who knew him—his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his zest for life will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the VFW Post 4054 53550 M-40 Marcellus, MI 49067 beginning at 12:30 pm. Paul will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery with military honors on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 10:00 am, anyone wishing to attend the service at Ft. Custer should arrive at the funeral assembly area of the cemetery, no earlier than 9:45 am.
