Band Notes for the Week of March 21
Important Dates and Information:
March 31 – Last day of the third marking period.
April 1-8 – Spring Break
April 28 – Jazz Festival, 10am, Hastings, MI
April 23 – Middle School Solo and Ensemble at SMC
May 25 – Spring Band Concert, 7pm. This concert is a requirement for all band students grades 6-12.
6th Grade Band
The 6th grade band is using practice cards again for the third marking period. Practice cards are logs of what each student has practiced and how many minutes were practiced. The goal is to get 60 minutes of playing time each week; of course students are encouraged to practice more. Practice cards must be signed by a parent or guardian. Cards are passed out each Monday and are due the following Monday. This is 25% of each marking period grade. The last day to turn in a practice card for the third marking period is Thursday, March 31.
The Marcellus High School Jazz Band performs at the Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Festival in Hastings, Thursday, April 28, 10:00am!
Started in 2003, the Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Festival has grown to be the largest jazz festival of its kind, matching more student groups and performers to professional jazz musicians through its clinician program than any other festival in the state. This non-competitive festival puts education and jazz promotion and appreciation at its core. The festival draws over 10,000 people each year and provides a weekend of free jazz performances to the public, as well as the chance for student groups from Michigan and the surrounding states to work with professional musicians. -thornapplearts.org
