

Band notes for the week of December 8, 2025
Coming Up:
12/15 – Winter Band Concert, 7pm. Features all bands grades 6-12.
Winter Band Concert – Monday, December 15, 7pm
The Marcellus Music Department will be presenting their Holiday Band Concert on Monday, December 15 at 7pm in the Varsity Gym. The concert will have performances by the Jazz Ensemble, 6th Grade Beginning Band, Middle School Band and High School Concert Band. The concert is free and open to the public but donations are always appreciated. Report time for ALL 6th Grade Band students is 6:30pm. Report time for all 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 grade band students is 6:00pm. The Dress code for all band members is – ugly Christmas sweaters or Holiday colors, black dress pants or long black skirt, black socks, and black shoes.
6th Grade Band
Practice cards are continuing for the 2nd Marking Period. Practice cards are a homework assignment and are 25% of each marking period grade. Students are assigned 70 minutes of practice time each week and it is a time management tool for young learners. Practice cards will be handed out every Monday and are due the following Monday. After the practice session and cards are completed they are to be signed by an adult who supervised the practice session and then returned to Miss Essex.
This Day in Music History – December 11
1966: Elton John’s band, Bluesology, opens for Little Richard at a show in London. Elton later says: “When I saw Little Richard standing on top of the piano, all lights, sequins and energy, I decided there and then that I was going to be a rock and roll piano player.”
1961: Motown Records scores their first #1 on the Hot 100 when The Marvelettes’ “Please Mr. Postman” tops the chart.
