Justin Hillsburg, New SESC Inspector for Cass County Conservation District
I am excited to share that I’ve joined the Cass County Conservation District as the new Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) Administrator. This role is a fantastic opportunity to actively contribute to preserving the local environment, and I’m eager to engage in efforts that help protect and sustain our ecosystems.
I graduated from Western Michigan University in May 2025, where I received a dual major in Environmental Sustainability and Criminal Justice. This educational background has given me a deep understanding of both environmental science and regulatory frameworks, which I’m eager to apply in my new role. Ecosystem protection, including minimizing soil erosion and safeguarding waterways, is critical for maintaining the health and balance of our natural environments. Through effective soil erosion control and sustainable land use practices, we can protect the ecosystems that support biodiversity, water quality, and overall ecological health.
I look forward to working alongside local landowners, community members, and stakeholders to ensure that our soil and water resources are carefully managed, allowing us to preserve the rich ecosystems that make Cass County such a special place.
Thank you for welcoming me to the team—I’m excited to help protect the ecosystems of Cass County for generations to come!
Charity Green, New Operations Manager for Cass County Conservation District
I’m excited to join the Cass County Conservation District as the new Operations Manager! This role allows me to put many aspects of my experience and interests into practice. I spent twenty years in the Air Force as an Independent Duty Medical Technician and had the opportunity to do many things medically related. One of my favorite areas I got to dabble in was water testing.

After I retired, I planted a hobby orchard and attempted to grow trees. I quickly found I had a better track record with people than plants, so I went to Southwestern Michigan College and earned my second associates degree in Agricultural Technologies with certification from Michigan State University in Orchard Management. I look forward to being involved with promoting stewardship for Michigan’s abundance of natural resources through community outreach programs and involvement with natural resource partners and stakeholders to ensure Cass County, Michigan is preserved for future generations. One of the organizations I had during my military career was, “Leave it better than you found it,” and this is what I hope to do!
