Charlene Marie (Buckhold) Burmeister, 83, of Marcellus, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 3, 1941, in Marcellus, the daughter of Raymond and Lucille (Stage) Buckhold, and attended Marcellus Schools.
Graduating from beauty school in Kalamazoo, Charlene went on to do hair care for nearly 40 years. She owned House of Beauty shops in Marcellus and Portage and won awards for hairstyling in New York City.
On April 15, 1998, she married James “Jim” Burmeister in Leland, Michigan. They loved being together and participating in each other’s activities, such as restoring and showing cars.
The Burmeister family owned Lakeside Campground in Jones for 20 years; Charlene put her heart and soul into the campground with landscaping, decorating, and keeping busy with making everything nice. She also enjoyed painting, cooking, and passing on life skills to her grandchildren.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Keith (Kelly) DeWeerd and Randy (Mary) DeWeerd; daughter, Shelly Yax; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim, and by two brothers, Keith and Gerry Buckhold.
She will be laid to rest in Bly Cemetery on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at noon. A celebration of her life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Marcellus United Methodist Church, 197 W. Main St., Marcellus.
