The Downtown Development Authority continues to evolve with the realignment of officers and the appointment of a new member.
At the February 24 meeting, rescheduled from February 10, Sarah Ayers, co-founder of Patch & Remington, tendered her resignation as DDA Director, but offered to stay on as Vice Director. Kay McAdam, editor of The Marcellus News, was appointed Director.
The DDA welcomed new member Blake Terrill to the board and promptly appointed him to the Grant Committee with McAdam and Library Director Chris Nofsinger.
With unanimous approval, sponsorship of Marcellus’ First Fridays in 2022 was transferred from the DDA to the Marcellus Area Historical Society. The MAHS agreed to become the fiduciary for First Fridays while the committee creates a long-term plan for sustaining the event. The MAHS, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, will retain 5% of the funds raised for First Friday and earmark them for the group’s soon-to-be museum at 149 E. Main.
In other business, Village President and DDA member Ron Welburn reported on the Village’s annexation discussions saying “the Village is getting caged in” by marijuana production and plans for solar. The Village is looking to annex property to the south, southeast and west to ensure room for residential and economic growth.
The DDA meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:00pm in Village Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.
