Donald Lee Huff, 83, of Marcellus, died peacefully Monday, May 1, 2023, in the comfort of his family’s presence.
His life began September 13, 1939, in Three Rivers, Michigan the middle of three children born to John and Leone Huff. He married Ruth Marie Underwood December 23, 1961 in Volinia Baptist Church.
Don served honorably in the U.S. Army as a member of the Military Police. While he was stationed in Germany, he and his wife visited several countries, making memories that lasted a lifetime. Don was a Deacon in his church and served almost continuously since the age of sixteen. He also served as a Sunday School teacher and worked with the youth. Don was a Trustee on the Volinia Township board and a pillar of the community. He loved his garden, and was particular about growing Ambrosia sweetcorn and too many tomatoes.
Throughout his illness, Don did not complain, relying on his faith to sustain him.
Because of his consistent servanthood and genuine love for Christ, Don will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of over sixty-one years, Ruth Huff of Marcellus; one sister, Ethelyn Huff of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John R. Huff of New York City. Though not a large biological family, he enjoyed an endless and eternal family in Christ.
Services were held Thursday, May 4, 2023, in Volinia Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. M.L.J. Shinabery officiating. Don was laid to rest in Crane Cemetery in Volinia Township where he was accorded Military Honors.
