Dr. T. K. Lawless Park Hosts “Spring Egg-stravaganza” 2022

April 5, 2022 By Marcellus News Leave a Comment

News from the Cass County Parks Department

We have excitedly been welcoming spring in small steps weather-wise, and in anticipation of the sights and sounds of an “eggs-traordinary” spring season, we would like you to join the Cass County Parks Department, Cass County Parks and Recreation Commission, The Friends of the Cass County Parks and Cass County 4-H as we celebrate our “Spring Egg-stravaganza” at Dr. T.K. Lawless Park on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Cost for this “egg-stra” economical family activity is $2.00 per person or 1 canned good per person. (All canned goods will be donated to a local food pantry.)

Our community has always given us “egg-cellent” support of our spring event but we are a little reluctant to trust Mother Nature this year, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for an amazing day. Hopefully we will have some warmer temperatures (and no more snow) to help our little hunters find the thousands of soft candy filled eggs that will be hidden through the fields of Lawless Park! To ensure everyone has the best opportunity to be successful finding eggs, the hunt will be divided into two groups:

Ages 2-4 will be held at 12:30 p.m. (approximate time) Ages 5-10 will be held at 1:30 p.m. (approximate time)

As participants find out from time-to-time, rain and snow can sometimes help to make the event rather “egg-citing” and unpredictable to say the least, so please dress appropriately. Rest assured we will have the fireplace going with plenty of hot food and beverages available to help warm the body and soul.

We have an “egg-ceptional” line-up of activities this year including an inflatable slide, face painting, crafts, wagon rides, and a nice warm bonfire for young and young at heart. And, as an “eggs-tra” special treat, we are also working on an “egg-citing” surprise for all our little visitors!

Sure to be one of the highlights of the day, the Easter Bunny will be making special appearance for photo opportunities and interaction with the participants. Be sure to bring your cameras and video equipment for the opportunity to create a lasting family memory.

Stargazers are reminded to mark their calendars for International Dark Sky Week at Dr. T. K. Lawless Park, 15122 Monkey Run Road, Vandalia. The park will stay open until midnight, weather permitting, April 25 – 30 According to the latest edition of Night Vision by Robert Parrish, astrophotogapher Marc Listello of the Michiana Astronomical Society, will present the basics of astrophotography, Tuesday, April 26, 7pm.

In 2020, T. K. Lawless Park was designated  an International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association. It is one of only two located in Michigan. The 820 acre nature park is open year-round and features seven miles of hiking trails, mountain and leisure biking trails, disc golf, fishing, picknicking, open games filed, horse shoe pits, and much more.

For more event information, or if you would like to volunteer, please contact the Cass County Parks and Recreation Department at 269-445-4456, see us on Facebook, or email Scott Wyman at scottwy@cassco.org
