Inside the Marcellus Community Schools

March 15, 2022 By Nanette Pauley Leave a Comment

On March 22, 2022, a full year will have passed since Marcellus Community Schools reopened the middle school building for grades six through eight. Since that time, the district has worked to provide middle school students with their own identity, space, activities and voice.

Principal Cropsey formed a Principal’s Advisory Committee made up of middle school student leaders. The group helps plan events, including after school dances and activities, for the entire student body to enjoy. In addition, several students participated in after school sewing and/ or cooking classes over the course of the last several months.   In collaboration with The Marcellus News, the Middle School Media Club was also formed and is up and running.

Soon, middle school students will also have the opportunity to participate in a drama club. Under the direction of teacher and Director Misty Kruegar and Assistant Angela Metcalf, the newly formed drama club will begin auditions and practice for Shrek- the Musical.  Performances are tentatively scheduled for May. I am excited to expand the extracurricular opportunities for Marcellus Middle School students!

In terms of the middle school facility, building improvements will continue. Over the summer, a new security door system will be in place and new carpet and tile will be installed in the library. In addition, the district anticipates the purchase of new middle school lunch tables.

In other news, Marcellus Community Schools has employment openings. The district  is seeking applicants for a Technology Technician as well as a Transportation and Maintenance Supervisor.

Effective June 10, long time employee Dianna Olson will retire after twenty-four years with the school district. Her contributions to our school district cannot be overstated; she will be greatly missed!  The district is also seeking to fill the Transportation and Maintenance Supervisor position. Current supervisor, Dave Vanderbosch, has taken a new job and his last day is March 25. I wish them both well and thank them for their service to Marcellus Community Schools.

Qualified and Interested applicants may submit a letter of interest and resume to Superintendent Pauley at  npauley@marcelluscs.org or mail to PO Box 48, Marcellus, MI  49067. The job postings may be found at https://marcelluscs.org/resources/employment/

Middle School Practices Tornado Awareness

The Marcellus Media Club got a quick lesson in catching an action shot during the Middle School’s Tornado drill, March 10. Sixth grade teacher Mrs. Vanetta demonstrates how to cover one’s head during a tornado. Mr. Townsend and Mrs. Metcalf also showed students how.
