Inside the Marcellus Community Schools

April 26, 2022 By Nanette Pauley Leave a Comment

The 2021- 22 school year is winding down, but there are still plenty of exciting events scheduled for the final quarter of the school year.  Mark your calendars for these special, upcoming student events.

Third grade students and teachers will present the musical play, Acorn to Oak, on May 19, at 6:30 p.m., in the elementary gymnasium.  The students will also host an afternoon performance, at 1:30 p.m., for their school mates.  This event always brings smiles to the faces of all who attend.

On May 21, at 7:30 p.m. and May 22, at 2:00 p.m., the drama club will present  Shrek The Musical JR.  This special event will take place at the high school stage/ gymnasium.  The drama club is a newly formed group that meets after school. The members have been working hard over the last several weeks to prepare for their first performance. Director Misty Krueger and Assistant Angela Metcalf, along with the cast of middle and high school students, enthusiastically invite the public to attend!

Director Katy Essex and the Wildcat Band will host their Spring Concert on May 25, at 7:00 p.m. Grab a blanket or a lawn chair and stop in to enjoy the sweet sounds of our amazing band as they present an outdoor concert on the football field (weather permitting).

Other upcoming events include Senior Honors Night on May 26, at 7:00 p.m. and Sports Recognition Night on June 1, at 6:00 p.m. (Note- the date for this event was incorrect in my last column).  The Class of 2022 will host baccalaureate at 2:00 p.m. on June 5.  Graduation will follow, at 3:00 p.m.

The school year’s conclusion does not mean learning ends.  Over the summer, kids can continue learning, growing and having fun by enrolling in Marcellus Community Schools summer classes.   In addition to academic credit recovery and remediation courses, the district intends to offer fun and engaging skill-based courses.  The summer course offerings are dependent upon enrollment interest.  Potential courses may include fitness, cooking, forensics, 3D printing, and basic woodworking, etc.  Please look for an interest survey requesting parent and student suggestions about potential summer camps or courses.
