Inside the Marcellus Community Schools

June 1, 2022 By Nanette Pauley Leave a Comment

Sometimes, we may find ourselves focusing on all of the challenges and obstacles of the last few years.  The effects of shutdowns, online learning, political angst, incivility, and even violence weigh on the minds of many.   However, the end of the school year brings with it many reasons for hope and celebration!

Anyone who desires a dose of joy need only attend a few of the end-of-school year events that feature the talents and accomplishments of many, many Marcellus students.  I recently participated in several events and left them feeling a great sense of pride and optimism.   Seeing our kids shine as SW10 scholars and scholar-athletes (see story on page four), cheering on the girls’ track team as they won the regional championship, watching our middle schoolers radiate confidence in Shrek the Musical, witnessing the joy at the third-grade musical play, and feeling the pride at the spring band concert was food for the soul.

Then there was the May 26 Senior Honors Night, and it was fabulous!  The achievements, awards, and triumphs of the senior class were on full display.  A large crowd of parents, friends, and school staff watched our seniors accept scholarships, departmental awards, and witnessed the phenomenal drumline and the heartfelt flower ceremony.  The evening brought happy and proud tears to the eyes of many.

While the district will continue to focus efforts and resources to continuous school improvement, providing additional learning opportunities for kids, and bolstering health and safety protocols, we will also take a moment to savor all of the good things. Our kids are confident, resilient, persistent, and talented; they will forge a better future for our world.

Please join me at Marcellus High School on June 5, at 3:00 p.m. for graduation. I suspect all in attendance will leave with renewed hope and optimism.  Congratulations to the talented and phenomenal Class of 2022!
