In March, the school board approved the addition of an Agriscience program and a Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. Last month, the school board hired Abby Asmus (pictured) to fill the teaching position and lead the new programs.
Asmus earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 2015, with concentrations in Animal Science and Animal Agriculture. Asmus’s previous work experience includes four years teaching at Cassopolis Public Schools and several years of industry experience. Asmus and her husband, Matt, own Platinum Shelton Livestock, have three sons, and are residents of the school district. I am thrilled to welcome Mrs. Asmus to Marcellus Community Schools and am excited to add new opportunities for our students!
The 2021-22 school year ended on June 10. With its conclusion came the retirements of two veteran staff. Marcellus Community Schools is grateful to Loretta Ransbottom and Dianna Olson for their dedicated service to our students and school district.
Ransbottom (pictured) leaves her bus driver role after thirty years of safely transporting hundreds of students to and from school and on numerous athletic and field trips. The students and staff at Marcellus Community Schools will certainly miss “Miss Loretta” but wish her all the best in retirement.
Olson (pictured) has been with the Marcellus school district for twenty-four years. Her dedicated work in the technology department helped advance the school district’s technology infrastructure and furthered teaching and learning opportunities for staff and students. Olson’s contribution to the district cannot be overstated, and her retirement leaves a void that is difficult to fill. Best wishes to Dianna Olson in her new life chapter.
In May, the school board hired Douglas Crawford (pictured) to take on the technology role left vacant with Olson’s retirement. Crawford has been working under Olson for the last several weeks and is well-prepared to assume the head technology position. The district is pleased to welcome him to Marcellus Community Schools.
