Local business in need of help

Most of you that follow this group [Marcellus Informed on Facebook] saw the post from Chapters 2 Customs about the current blight issue.  I stopped in to see Adam, the owner, yesterday about some issues with my Jeep.  I have had work done on all of my vehicles here at his business, and personally feel he is a fair, honest, hard working business man and a huge asset to our community.

B&M auto and North 40 auto were some of our most valuable businesses, and both worked for years offering a valuable service, often for less money, than other competitors outside our community.  We lost those two businesses and I didn’t know if we would ever get that back.  Whether it’s Grames tire, Terrill’s Market, GW Jones bank or the Jones law office, there are businesses in our community that are a hidden Gems and they are hard to replace.  We need to acknowledge this and work with them to keep our businesses supported and here to serve us.

When I spoke with Adam yesterday I let him know I supported him.  He went on to tell me that in addition to being back logged, he had had a very bad week, having caused some damage to the building that would need repairs and some issues with some of the clients’ cars that he felt responsible to fix and cover out of his own pocket.  This will set him back several thousand dollars out of his own pocket.  Then I read today of his newest stresses that came since I spoke with him yesterday.

This played heavily on my mind all night. I wanted to help him but didn’t know what I could do.  I prayed about it and I discussed it with my wife and we decided we would stop by today and drop of a financial donation to try to help him offset some of his out of pocket expenses.  He has always been very fair with me and I feel that is something I can afford to do to help him keep his head above water.  I don’t want to see our community loose another good business.

When I met with Adam, I handed him a $50.00 bill and said I wanted to help him out.  I explained Marcellus was the type of community that did these kinds of things for good people.  He said he could never ask people to do that, but greatly appreciated it because he wasn’t sure what he was going to do to cover his financial obligations from the issues lately.  I told him that I appreciate that he wouldn’t ask for donations but, I would like to post something on Marcellus Informed and I hoped he would except donation from others if I did.   He said he would do better than that, he would put a credit in his books and anyone else that dropped off a donation could get a credit toward any future work he did for them.   Again, I emphasize, this guy could have taken my money, no obligation expected, but said in essence, I will make it right with you.

Here is what I am asking from you.   This is not coming from Adam, or anyone connected to his business.  If you can afford it and want to help keep a good business in Marcellus, stop by his shop and make a monetary donation.  He will put a credit in his books if you ever have services done in the future.  He could really use some help keeping his head above water.  We can’t afford to lose another good business.

I have been part of nonprofit groups throughout my lifetime and as part of the past” have a heart committee” that raised over $14,000.00 for people in our community that needed assistance during bad times in their life.  I can tell you, Marcellus cares and takes care of their people, but one person can’t make the impact of many.   Please stop by and see them at Chapter 2 Customs.  Any amount however big or small will make a difference.  Thank you all in advance.
