In response to the letter to the editor (Erica Watts – December 4) I agree with a lot that she has to say.
I was on the Village Council for 4 years, and I didn’t run again when my term was up because I was very discouraged after those 4 years. I felt it was a good old boys club, and that a few of the members met with the village clerk and they came to the meeting and told us what we were voting on, not much discussion.
I have heard through the grapevine that a person went to the president and was willing to step up when DPW was short a person and instead of the president bringing that to the council and asking them and voting on it, he went to the clerk, and she said No. I do not know if this is true or not, but if it is, that is not the way it should have been handled.
I find it interesting that people that have moved to Marcellus seem more interested in what happens to the Village then long-time residents. I am guilty myself for not attending more meeting than what I do, but just speaking your disgust out on Facebook won’t solve the issues we have.
The sidewalks are very disappointing and the fact something hasn’t happened faster is not acceptable. It seems everyone is playing the blame game. Somebody along the line knew what was going on and needs to step up and take the blame, because it sure wasn’t us businesses along Main Street or taxpayers that did it, but we are the ones suffering.
As for what is happening on the fire department, it makes a person wonder why they don’t want to give you the information that is being requested; not doing it sure makes a person wonder. We do not have the manpower that we use to on the fire department or ambulance which should be a concern to the village residents, because at one time we had a darn good department. If we lose it, I sure hope I never have the need for an ambulance or fire truck because it could be a long wait.
