Letter to the Editor – October 8, 2026

October 6, 2026 By Marcellus News Leave a Comment

Dear Editor:

In deciding whether I wanted to add another letter to the editor or not, I missed the deadline last week. One of those things that reminded me, don’t hesitate, follow through. As I’ve said before, I’m human and do make mistakes, I just do what I can to learn from them.

Something that comes out of recent community conversations is the power of mindset. Just because something is done one way and works, doesn’t mean it is right. Think about that. Ask questions. Look for improvements. Be willing to change.

I know things won’t change in a matter of a single conversation or meeting, but I also understand things can’t change unless problems are addressed.

Speaking of addressing a problem. We still need at least one person that is able to commit to being a valid write-in candidate for the Village Council.  Commitment toward wanting to do their best for the community. Deadline is October 23 at 4:00p

So let me change the focus, the school’s homecoming week was being missed by multiple of those in leadership roles. I’m not a sports person, not really sentimental, and didn’t even care much about the homecomings of my youth. And yet, I do see its importance in smaller schools and communities.

All this leads me to the fact that the school and the younger generations it serves are continually brought up as the future for our community. The future was in those that lined Main Street to cheer on the Marching Band, the Homecoming Court, and the Football team as they went past. It was everyone who showed up and everyone who went to the game. It was in all those pouring their support into our community’s kids.

Again, just in case you missed it, this past week was homecoming for our school here in town. Marcellus Community Schools….Community…think about that, it’s even in the name.

Think about the excitement of the kids when they’ve ridden through the village on their parade floats cheering and waving at all they pass.

Think about the joy when the youth are tossing out candy during those parades and they see someone they know and can throw that candy at them.

Think about the pride inspired when they’ve seen people lining the streets to welcome back the team from championships.

Think about the students being acknowledged for placing during their competition (band, FFA, etc) by the community.

Think about the just graduated class who pushed to improve one of the community parks, and still needs community support to do it right.

Think about the powerful connection to hometown being built in our kids in these moments.

Now, think about yourself getting involved to help better the community for our future, our kids’ future.

Think about showing up to encourage the positive.

Think about stepping outside of the box or outside of your norm and doing something for everyone.

Think about what it means for our kids.

Do better, don’t think about it, don’t talk about it, just do it.

Be a write-in candidate for Marcellus Village Council.
