The Marcellus Varsity Boys’ Track Team finished the 2023 season with a series of “Big Meets” and fared well in them: The Gobles “Little Guys” Invitational (Friday May 12), The MHSAA Division 4 Regional Meet #34 at Gobles (Friday May 19), The SW10 Conference Championship Meet at Mendon (Tuesday May 23), and the MITCA (Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association) “Team State” Championship at Mt. Pleasant High School on Saturday May 27, 2023.

This track meet is one of the largest in the Southwest Michigan Area as this year it was composed of 18 Division 3 & 4 Teams. The Marcellus Boys scored 33 points in the meet to capture 11th Place out of the 18 competing schools. The following is a list of people who scored for Marcellus:
Long Jump: 8th Place – Chaze Taylor – 17’11.75”
Shot Put: 7th Place – Marvin Jones – 37’5.5”
High Jump: 3rd Place Quinton Tone – 5’6”, Tie 4th Place Beau Ferguson – 5’6”.
Pole Vault: 5th Place – Jackson Krzycki – 10’3”
110 H.H.: 4th Place – Yona Goodlow – :17.7
800 Relay: (Team of Gabe Madden, Yona Goodlow, Beau Ferguson, Quinton Tone) 1:42.9.

MHSAA Regional Meet #34-4 -At Gobles

This Regional Meet turned out to be one of the strongest Division 4 Regionals in the State as it featured Defending Division 4 State Champion Kalamazoo Hackett. The Wildcats scored 23.5 points to finish 8th out of the 14 competing teams. The following is a summary of the Marcellus scoring in the meet:
High Jump: 8th Place – Quinton Tone – 5’6”
Pole Vault: Tie 3rd Place Jackson Krzycki – 8’6”
110 H.H.: 4th Place – Yona Goodlow – :18.1
800 Relay: 7th Place (Team of Gabe Madden, Yona Goodlow, Beau Ferguson, Quinton Tone) – 1:44.2
400 Relay: 6th Place (Team of Gabe Madden, Jackson Krzycki, Chaze Taylor, Quinton Tone) – :49.8.

SW10 Conference Championship Meet at Mendon

On the basis of their Conference Dual Meet Record (2-7-1) the Wildcats finished in 8th Place of the 11 schools in the Southwest Ten Conference. This was the last competition for Mendon in the SW10 as they are leaving the conference for another league closer to the middle of the state. Mendon was replaced by former SAC rival Lawrence at the beginning of the current school year. The following is a summary of the SW10 Meet:

MITCA “Team State” Championship Meet at Mt. Pleasant H.S.

To attend this meet, sponsored by the Michigan Track Coaches Association, each team must receive an invitation to compete. Thanks to their youth and depth, both the boys’ and girls’ track teams were invited to attend this prestigious meet. This was also partially due to some key early season victories. This meet was a good experience for both teams as they had to compete against the best teams in Michigan.
Many of the Boys’ Team members had their best performances of the year in the meet, and a few were able to finish in the top 8 in their events.

The Spring Sports Awards Program (including Track & Field) will be held on Tuesday June 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the High School. All parents and all interested persons are encouraged to attend.
