Marcellus High School conducted its annual Winter Sports Recognition Night, Wednesday, March 16. Athletes in boys’ and girls’ basketball, wrestling and cheerleading were honored for their athletic and academic achievements.
For the seventh year in a row, the Ladycats basketball team earned Academic All-State Division 4 honors from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. The team had a weighted team GPA of 3.5242. The boys’ team earned Academic All-State Division 4 Honorable Mention with a weighted team GPA of 3.2869.
Athletes named to the All-Conference Southwest 10 teams include Emma Holmes, First Team Basketball, and Travis Marsh, First Team Wrestling; and Brooklyn VanTilburg, 2nd Team Basketball. Earning Honorable Mention are Wyatt Haas and Parker Adams, basketball; Allison Daugherty and Clare Flory, basketball; and James Smith and Wyatt Maggert, wrestling.
Also noted were wrestling state qualifiers Gabriella Allen, 2nd Place; Carlee Osborn, 6th Place; and Travis Marsh.
Varsity Cheerleaders honored were Savannah Sears, Alivia Colley, Emily Bunch, Madisyn Harrison, MaKynna Harrison, Brooke Evans, Chelsea Eaves, and Miranda Cropsey.
The Marcellus Athletic Department thanks the many volunteers for their time and dedication to MHS sports. Special thanks to volunteer coaches Christian Hutson and Chris Reed, Varsity Boys Basketball; Luke Giddings and Denny Small, Varsity Girls Basketball; Brook Osbeck, JV Girls Basketball; Bruce Allen and Ash Stokes, wrestling; Cassandra Coffey, Krista Hettich, and Dustin Lehew, 7th Grade Boys Basketball; Kristen Jackson and Lilly Schleben, cheerleading.
