The General Board Meeting, held at the Newberg Township Fire Department, was called to order on May 9th, 2022, at 7 pm. Present at the meeting was Rifenberg, Harvey, Covey, and Van Heukelum. Clerk Duff was absent. The minutes from the April 11th meeting were approved as written.
Reports:
Assessor: Nothing to report
Ordinance: Ordinance Enforcement Officer was present and gave a presentation on several blight properties.
Ambulance: Ambulance Director Jess Rifenberg reported sixteen (16) calls for the month of April; ten
(10) Newberg, four (4) Porter, one (1) Marcellus, and one (1) City of Three Rivers. She also requested the Treasurer Van Heukelum look into the possibility of changing the frequency of pay check disbursement for the EMS.
Fire: Fire Chief Forrester reported six (6) calls for the month of April; three (3) Newberg, one (1) Porter, one (1) Marcellus, and one (1) Fabius Park.
Sexton: Sexton Rifenberg reported two (2) cremation burials for the month of April. Building: Nothing to report
Treasurer: Report is available for the month of April.
County Commission: Nothing to report.
Public Comment on Non-Agenda Items: Barbara Gordon, Cass County Library Director, gave a presentation on the library millage that will be on the August ballot.
Correspondence: Nothing to report
Unfinished Business:
Mass Gathering Ordinance: Possible changes to the ordinance were discussed and Covey will be contacting the township lawyer to discuss the changes. Big Cloud Farms and Rainbow Farms discussed their first events of the years and their next events coming up.
New Business:
Memorial Day Program will be held at Poes Cemetery at 12 pm.
ARPA funding was discussed. Board members will be looking into different options.
Total Bills to pay- Motion made by Van Heukelum, supported by Rifenberg, to pay the bills for the month of May in the amount of $15,443.59. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Comments from the floor: Vickie Sherry commented that the COA would be providing shredding services on May 18th from 10-11 am for a $5 fee.
Motion was made by Rifenberg, supported by Harvey, to adjourn the General Board Meeting at 8:17 pm. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
