The December 11, 2023, General Board Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm at the Newberg Township Fire Department. Minutes from the November 2023 General Meeting were approved as written.
Reports:
Assessor: Nothing to report.
Ordinance: Discussion was had regarding current cases.
Ambulance: Director Schrader reported thirty-four calls for the month of November; seventeen Newberg, four Porter and the rest were mutual aid calls from the surrounding area. Discussion had regarding the letter/policy created by the township attorney. Motion made by Covey, supported by Harvey, to have the township attorney send the letter out to the surrounding townships and Central Cass/Van Buren County Emergency Services Authority for Newberg Township EMS Services; this will go into affected February 1, 2024, with the cost per call at $700.00. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Fire: Chief Forrester reported seven calls for the month of November; four Newberg, two Porter and one Marcellus. Motion made by VanHuekelum, supported by Blackburn, to accept Bryce Stewart as a member of the Newberg Township Fire Department. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Sexton: Nothing to report.
Building: Clerk Duff read the building report for November.
Treasurer: Report for the month of November is available by contacting the Treasurer.
County Commission: Nothing to report.
Public Comment: Representative from the Newberg Township Solar Project was present to answer any questions regarding the new laws that will be passed in Michigan regarding solar projects. Discussion was had regarding solar projects.
Correspondence: Noted misc. correspondence.
Unfinished Business:
Update on New Township Hall: Supervisor Covey reported that the township met with a builder to discuss possible plans for the new hall project.
New Business:
Township Road Projects 2024: Members of the board, along with the road commission, went on a tour of roads in Newberg to see what some possible projects will be for the upcoming year. The board will be asking the Cass County Road Commission to write up contract estimates for the following road projects: paving projects- Railroad, Hoffman, Harwood Lake Street and gravel projects- Cox Road and Spring Street.
Bills to Pay: Motion made VanHuekelum, supported by Covey, to pay the bills for the month of December in the amount of $47,909.32. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
