The Newberg Township General Meeting head on October 10, 2022, at the Newberg Township Fire Department, was called to order 7pm. Minutes from the September meeting were approved as written.
Reports:
Assessor: Special meeting for the Bair Lake Improvement Project on October 26, 2022, at 7pm at the Newberg Township Fire Department. This will be for the Special Assessment for Bair Lake.
Ordinance: Nothing to report.
Ambulance: Director Rifenberg reported seventeen calls for the month of September; ten Newberg, three Porter, three Penn and one LaGrange. Director Rifenberg stated that they had a discussion at the last ambulance meeting regrading pay for ambulance volunteers that are licensed and non-licensed members. Further discussion will be had regrading this when the township starts work on the 2022/2023 fiscal year budget.
Fire: Fire Chief Forrester reported three calls for the month of September; one Porter, one Newberg, and one mutual aid to Marcellus. Sexton: Rifenberg reported one regular burial for the month of September. October the 15th is the deadline for removing things from the cemetery before clean-up for the fall winter season.
Building: The building report for the month of September was read by Clerk Duff.
Treasurer: The September report is available and VanHeukelum asked if anyone had questions with the new Treasurer report lay out. County Commission: no one present.
Public Comment: Joyce Locke introduced herself and stated she is running for Commissioner in District 3.
Correspondence: noted misc. correspondences.
Announcement: Public Accuracy Test will be held on November 2nd at 3pm at the Newberg Fire Department.
Unfinished Business: Solar Panel Development Agreement- Supervisor Covey shared that he discussed the ordinance with the Newberg Township Attorney and she stated the ordinance is good to move forward with. Discussion was had regarding the Development Agreement with Three Lakes Solar. Motion made by Covey, supported by VanHeukelum, to accept the Development Agreement with Three Lakes Solar. Roll Call Vote “Aye”- Duff, Covey, Harvey, VanHeukelum and Rifenberg. Motion carried upon a roll call vote.
Mass Gathering Ordinance– Supervisor Covey reported there was a gathering at Boot Hill Ranch this past weekend and that they reported they did not apply for a permit because the event would be under 500 people. A noise complaint was made at the meeting regarding this event.
New Business: Blight Issues: Supervisor Covey reported that the Cass County Road Commission is applying for a grant that would help with the cost of cleaning up blight issues in the county. These blight issues would be homes and properties that have unsafe buildings on them that need to be removed. Township are asked to make a list of such properties and report it to the road commission.
Bills to Pay: Motion made by VanHeukelum, supported by Covey, to pay the bills for the month of September in the amount of $24,074.67. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
