The Newberg Township July 2023 General Meeting was called to order at 7pm at the Newberg Township Fire Department. The minutes from the June 12, 2023, meeting were approved as written.
Reports:
Ordinance: Nothing to report for the month. Clerk Duff read the new policy and procedure that were shared with the board by Newberg Assessor Shalice Northrop. Motion made by VanHuekelum, supported by Covey, to adopt the Assessors Policy and Procedures for Newberg Township. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Ambulance: Director Schrader reported twenty-five calls for the month of June. The department interviewed an applicant for the daytime parttime employee position. Motion made by Covey, supported by Harvey, to accept Brendon Andaverde as a new part time daytime employee for the Newberg Ambulance Department. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Fire: Chief Forrester reported seven calls for the month of June: four Newberg, two Porter and one mutual aid to Penn Township. Pete Davis has completed his fire one and two courses and is now fully certified.
Sexton: Two full burials and one cremains burial reported for the month of June. Building Inspector- Clerk Duff read the report for the month of June.
Treasurer: Report for the month of June is available at the meeting or by emailing the treasurer. Treasurer VanHuekelum reported the Newberg Township Fire Department decided, at their July fire meeting, to open two CDs at GW Jones Bank in the amount of $100,000.00 in each.
County Commission: Work is continuing at the old courthouse. Nothing new to report.
Public Comment: Clerk Duff reported that her deputy clerk, Jill Blackburn, resigned at the end of May 2023. This month, Clerk Duff has appointed Leeah Duff as the new Deputy Clerk for Newberg Township starting July 2023.
Announcements: Nothing at this time.
Unfinished Business: None at this time.
New Business: Appointment of new trustee- Supervisor Covey opened it up to the floor for anyone interested in the trustee position. Five residents from the township shared their interest in the trustee position. Covey opened it up to the board for any questions. Motion made by Duff, supported by VanHuekelum, to appoint Jill Blackburn as Newberg Township Trustee to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term ending in December 2024. Roll Call Vote: “Yes”- Duff, Harvey, VanHuekelum. “No”-Covey. Motion carried upon roll call vote.
Bills to Pay: Motion made by Covey, supported by VanHuekelum, to pay the bills for the month of July in the amount of $47,049.76. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Comments from the Floor: A resident asked if there was any update regarding the enforcement officer and ongoing cases in the township. Discussion was had regarding said ongoing case. Supervisor Covey reported that he will be making sure that the officer will not be coming on the property of Leroy Bistodeau until they are contacted to do so by the Newberg Township Supervisor. Bistodeau requested that this be written in the minutes on record. Motion made by Covey, supported by Harvey, to adjourn the meeting at 7:33pm. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
