The General Board Meeting, held at the Newberg Township Fire Department was called to order on June 13th 2022 at 7pm. Minutes from the May 9th meeting were approved as written.
Assessor: Nothing to report.
Ordinance: Ordinance officer was present and shared his report for May.
Ambulance: Ambulance Director Rifenberg reported eighteen calls for the month of May; eight Porter, eight Newberg, one Marcellus and one Calvin. Rifenberg reported that at the ambulance meeting this month Steve Schrader was approved as a member of the Newberg Volunteer Ambulance Department. Motion made by Van Heukelum, supported by Rifenberg to accept Steve Schrader as a member of the Newberg Ambulance Department. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Discussion followed regarding payroll changes for the ambulance department. Motion made by Duff, supported by Covey, to start paying the ambulance employees bi-weekly payroll which will start July 2022 and all fees will come out of the ambulance account. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. Motion made by Van Heukelum, supported by Covey, starting July 2022 Newberg Township will pay the volunteers for the Newberg Ambulance monthly. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Fire: Chief Forrester reported eight calls for the month of May; two Newberg, four Porter, one mutual aid to Marcellus and one mutual aid to Constantine. Forrester reported they approved a new volunteer fireman at the June meeting. Motion made by Covey, supported by Rifenberg, to accept Jeremy Wright as a new member to the Newberg Fire Department. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Sexton: Nothing to report. Building: Clerk Duff read the building report for the month of May.
Treasurer: Report is available for the month of May.
County Commissioner: Not present.
Public Comment on Non-agenda items: A resident from the township expressed concerns about noise and crowds of people on neighboring property and her property late at night into the weekends. The Ordinance officer was going to get in contact with her about this.
Correspondence: Noted misc. correspondence.
Unfinished Business: Solar Panels: Clerk Duff shared information from a meeting had with Orion.
New Business:
Blight Ordinance Enforcement: Nothing new to report, discussion was had during the ordinance officer report.
ARPA Funding Usage: Discussion was had regarding using the ARPA funds for a new township hall.
Delinquent Fire Bills: Resolution was made by Van Huekelum, supported by Covey, to place delinquent fire bills on the Newberg summer tax bills as needed. Roll Call Vote: “Aye”- Duff, Van Huekelum, Covey, Rifenberg and Harvey. Resolution adopted by roll call vote.
Bills to Pay: Motion made by Van Heukelum, supported by Covey, to pay the bills for the month of June in the amount of 121,735.96. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Public Comment: Attorney from Orion Solar Company was present and shared information with the board. The board asked for the company to be present at the July 11th general meeting to share information regarding the solar panel project for Newberg Township.
Motion made by Covey, supported by Rifenberg, to adjourn the meeting at 8:11pm. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
