The November 14, 2022, General Board Meeting was called to order at 7pm at the Newberg Township Fire Department. Minutes from the October 10th meeting were approved as written.
Reports:
Assessor: Nothing to report.
Ordinance: Beth Pompey, Zoning Solutions, shared her report regarding cases currently open in Newberg Township. The board and attorney will start looking at updating the ordinances for Newberg Township regrading blight.
Motion made by Rifenberg, supported by VanHeukelum, to move money from the Cemetery FundĀ
Professional Contract Services in the amount of $5,000 to the Enforcement Officer Salary and Wages under General Account. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Ambulance: Director Rifenberg reported thirty-four calls for the month of October; twenty-three Newberg, nine Porter, one Marcellus and one for the city of Three Rivers that was a disregard. Treasurer VanHeukelum asked the board about looking into getting a credit card for the fire and ambulance to use for purchases instead of using personal accounts. The board agreed to have VanHeukelum look into this further.
Fire: Chief Forrester reported thirteen calls for the month of October; seven Newberg, five Porter and one Marcellus.
Motion made by Duff supported by Covey to use $250 from the General Account Election Supplies to pay towards the December Franger Gas bill for December. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. This is to help cover the cost of heating the Fire Department on election day while having more traffic in and out of the department.
Sexton: Nothing to report.
Building: Clerk Duff read the building report for the month of October.
County Commissioner: Nothing to report.
Public Comment: None
Announcements: Special Meeting for the Newberg Solar Project scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, 7pm at the Fire Department.
Unfinished Business: Blight Elimination Program: This was discussed during the Ordinance Report, nothing more to discuss.
New Business: Stryker Lift Assist for Ambulance: Steve Schrader shared information regarding a lift assist for the Newberg Township Ambulance. A representative from Stryker was present to demonstrate and answer questions about the product. The township board requested a cost quote and information to look over before the December meeting.
Cass County Road Commission: Covey stated he will be contacting the road commission to look into a road tour and possible contracts/road projects for the 2023 road projects.
Bills to Pay: Motion made by VanHeukelum, supported by Rifenberg, to pay the bills for the month of November in the amount of $41,048.37. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Comments from the floor: Resident complained about the condition of Savage Road and asked when they will do anything to improve the condition. Covey stated that this is a county road and that we will pass the complaints along to the road commission.
Motion made by Covey, supported by VanHeukelum, to adjourn the meeting at 8:30pm.
Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
