The December 12, 2022, General Board Meeting was called to order at 7pm at the Newberg Township Fire Department.
Minutes from the November 14th meeting were approved as written.
Reports: Assessor: Nothing to report.
Ordinance: Supervisor Covey shared the report for the month of November.
Ambulance: Director Rifenberg reported nineteen calls for the month of November; four Porter, fourteen Newberg, one Penn and one Calvin. Rifenberg reported the ambulance billing company contacted them about raising the rates for charges to reflect what insurance companies are currently paying.
Motion made by Harvey, supported by Duff, to change the rates for ALS from $825 to $830, mileage reimbursement from $15 to $15.50 and the BLS Emergent from $500 to $525. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Fire: Chief Forrester reported eleven calls for the month of November; seven Newberg, one Porter, one mutual aid Porter and two mutual aid to Marcellus with one disregard in route.
Sexton: Nothing to report. Motion made by VanHuekelum, supported by Covey, to hire Pandy Chiddister as the cemetery records clerk for Newberg Township. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Building: Clerk Duff read the building report for the month of November.
County Commissioner: Nothing to report.
Public Comment: None
Announcements: Nothing to report.
Unfinished Business: Blight Elimination Program: Supervisor Covey discussed meeting with the building inspector and ordinance enforcement officer this past month. Covey will be contacting the attorney to look into updating our ordinances this next year.
Stryker Lift Assist for Ambulance: The ambulance department voted to approve the purchase of a lift assist system for one of the current ambulances. Motion made by Duff, supported by VanHeukelum, to approve the purchase of the Striker Lift Assist for Ambulance #710 at the cost of $69,721.40 with payment being made at time of delivery. Roll Call Vote: ‘Aye’- Duff, VanHeukelum, Covey, Rifenberg and Harvey. Motion carried upon roll call vote.
Three Lakes Solar Site Plan Approval: Motion made by VanHeukelum, supported by Covey, to adopt the Resolution of the Newberg Township Board Approving the site plan of Three Lakes Solar, LLC, Granting two waivers for the overhead electric lines for the protection of wetlands below, and approving and addendum to the development agreement to provide for security by Three Lakes Solar for payment of real and personal property taxes. Roll Call Vote: ‘Aye’- Covey, Duff, VanHeukelum, Rifenberg and Harvey. Resolution adopted upon roll call vote.
New Business:Â Landfill Passes 2023: Motion made by Duff, supported by Rifenberg, to continue theÂ
Newberg Township Landfill Pass program for the 2023 calendar year starting in January and providing two passes per parcel with up to 6 total passes per property owner in Newberg Township. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Cass County Road Commission Road Tour: Supervisor Covey will be scheduling a time to do the road tour with any township members that are able to make it.
Bills to Pay: Motion made by VanHuekelum, supported by Covey, to amend the 2022-23 budget to move $650 from the election supplies to the election professional contract services. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote. Motion made by VanHuekelum, supported by Duff, to pay the bills for the month of December in the amount of $22,651.92. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Comments from the floor: Questions were discussed concerning issues with roads in the township. Motion made by Covey, supported by Rifenberg, to adjourn the meeting at 8:13pm. Motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
