News from Marcellus TWP Library for the week of December 15, 2025

By far the hottest books in our Juvenile Fiction category are graphic novels–kids devour these books!

Graphic novels are a fabulous way to set kids on their reading journeys. Lots of graphics on each page support the text and aid comprehension. Graphic novels are great for reluctant readers or those with learning differences–they’re engaging and confidence building.    This week we highlight some of our new books for our young (and young-at-heart) readers.

Dog Man: Big Jim Believes by Dav Pilkey is the 14th graphic novel in the wildly popular Dog Man Series. Dog Man revolves around the adventures of the titular character, a half-man, half-dog hybrid who works as a police officer. While they can be read individually, the books do follow a general narrative.
Dog Man is by far the most popular series in the children’s section this year. So popular, we’ve created a whole event around it on December 20th 10 am-2 pm.

We now have three new series by Diane Almer. Diane Almer’s books are easy chapter books with lots of supporting illustrations, whimsical characters, and silly story lines.

Purple Space Chickens: What would you do if you found a tiny purple space chicken? Kids who love funny adventures and top secret missions will love this series with hilarious adventures about a boy named Bear and his crazy life with a magical purple chicken from outer space.

Sprinkles and Unicorn: Sprinkles never expected her unicorn to actually follow her to school. But the moment she does—sparkles, sugar-cookie crumbs, and all—chaos breaks loose. Now Sprinkles has a full-time unicorn situation, and it’s only getting messier. Life with a unicorn is anything but normal.

Charlie Picasso What if everything you drew… came to life? Meet Charlie Picasso, an ordinary kid with an extraordinary pencil. One mysterious gift from his art teacher changes everything—and now his doodles are jumping off the page (sometimes literally).

How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. A young Viking boy goes on adventures with Toothless, his mischievous dragon, in the series that inspired the movies! Action-packed, hilarious, and perfectly illustrated, How to Train Your Dragon is a beloved modern classic.

The Sisters Grimm Series by Michael Buckley. Orphaned sisters are sent to live with their grandmother, Relda Grimm, in the strange town of Ferryport Landing. The girls soon learn a family secret: They are descendants of the famous Brothers Grimm, whose book of fairy tales is actually a history book. Enter a world of fractured fairy tales and magical mysteries, this series is perfect for young readers and fantasy enthusiasts–it combines mystery, humor, and fairy tale magic in a captivating way.
