Public Hearing

August 10, 2022

Supervisor Oxley called the Cedar Lake Weed Special Assessment District Public Hearing to order at 6:30 p.m.  Members present- Meade, Oxley, Bitely, Nesbitt and Packer.  Also present – Attorney Schuitmaker and 4 guests.

Motion by Bitely with support by Meade to adjourn the Cedar Lake Weed Special Assessment District Public Hearing at 6:54 p.m. Voice vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Regular Meeting – August 10, 2022

Supervisor Oxley called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Members present – Meade, Oxley, Bitely, Nesbitt, and Packer.  Also present – Attorney Schuitmaker and five guests. Motion by Packer with support by Bitely to approve the minutes of the Special Meeting on June 29, 2022 with corrections. Voice vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Packer with support by Bitely to approve the minutes of the Public Hearings and regular  meeting on July 13, 2022 with corrections. Voice vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Packer with support by Bitely to approve the Treasurer’s report subject to audit. Voice vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Packer with support by Nesbitt to approve the bills as presented. Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Meade with support by Packer for a resolution to continue the Special Assessment District and set hearing on Sept 14 at 6:30 pm to confirm roll and levy the assessment for the eradication or control of aquatic weeds and plants for Cedar Lake. Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Meade with support by Packer for a resolution to accept the Miracle Camp letter of request to look into a public sewer system for Bankson Lake and move forward with initial engineering and feasibility studies. Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed. 

Motion by Meade with support by Nesbitt for a resolution to engage LASA to act on Porter Townships behalf to look at engineering studies and potential funding options and grant monies for public sewer on Bankson and Huzzy Lakes. Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Meade with support by Nesbitt for a resolution for engineering feasibility studies for Bankson and Huzzy Lakes public sewer, at a cost not to exceed $50,000. Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Meade with support by Nesbitt for a resolution to allocate COVID funds up to $50,000 to conduct the engineering feasibility study for Bankson and Huzzy Lake public sewer. Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Meade with support by Packer for the township to participate in Antwerp Township’s updated Electronic Disposal/Recycle Program through Sept 2024 and to allocate COVID funds at a cost not to exceed $1500.  Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Bitely with support by Nesbitt to accept Supervisor Oxley’s recommendation to pledge $500 to Van Buren Conservation District to support Recycle Program that will located at Porter Township Hall tentatively 09/21/2023. Roll call vote – all yes. Motion passed.

Motion by Bitely with support by Nesbitt to adjourn the meeting at 8:37 pm. Voice vote – all yes.  Motion passed.
