The Cass County Historical Society is taking a new approach to offering programs in 2022. The Society will hold its meetings at different locations each month beginning in March.
The first program features MHS alumnus and News columnist John Mooy. Mooy presents “Stories of a Rural Mail Carrier,” Tuesday, March 15, 7:00pm, in the historic Hudson Memorial Building, 179 N. Jones Street, Marcellus.
Many Marcellus residents no doubt remember Mooy’s father, Nat, our long time Rural Route #2 mail carrier. John oftentimes accompanied his dad and has many stories to tell. (The accompanying photo, while depicting a rural mail carrier, predates Nat by quite a few years!)

Rural free mail delivery began in the United states in 1896 as a way to get mail directly to farmers. The picture above is from 1899.

The Society’s meeting begins at 6:00pm, March 15, and John’s program follows at 7:00pm. Both are free and open to the public.
The Society’s Annual Meeting and Show and Tell program is Tuesday, April 12, 7:00pm, at the Cass County Council on Aging, 60525 Decatur Rd., Cassopolis.
