Team RickWorld Reads of the Week – June 30, 2025

July 1, 2025 By Marcellus News Leave a Comment

Happy Independence Day from Team RickWorld! Just six months to go in the Marcellus Library’s Read Through the Decades Challenge! The Challenge concludes at the library’s Noon Year’s Eve Party on December 31. To learn how you can participate, just visit the library.

Justin Ware: Doing a lot of Dad stuff. . .

Katy Essex: Mount Dragon by Preston and Child. This book took a lot of willpower to get through.  It almost felt like there were two different storylines intertwined.  Heavy dialogue involving genetics, and DNA coding.  Not the best book by these authors. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I think I felt every single emotion while reading this book.  The main character makes no apologies for the way she lived her life to protect herself and those she loved.  Some people will love this book and others will not because of who the main character loved.  Fantastic writing, a plotline I was not expecting.  I will very happily go in search of more works by this author. The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. Pulitzer winning novella about courage and triumph.  However, not all stories have a happy ending.

Sarah Essex: Brimstone by Preston and Child. Definitely a thriller, mixing the supernatural with science. Dance of Death by Preston and Child. 6th in the Pendergast series. The Angel of Second Street by Barbara Tifft Blakey. Historical fiction and romance

Kay McAdam:  The Lost Tomb & Other Real-Life Stories of bones, burials, and murder by Douglas Preston. Not sure why I though this was a novel but it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise! Author Douglas Preston takes you on a vivid tour of the “real life stories of bones, burials and murder” that have inspired his writing. From pre-history to modern murder, it’s quite a ride! Sent me into find-a-documentary mode. . .

That’s all for this week. . . Keep reading and remember, Kids Who Read Succeed! – Even big kids!
