Justin Ware: Where the Deer and the Antelope Play: The Pastoral Observations of One Ignorant American Who Loves to Walk Outside by Nick Offerman. Insightuful travelogue with reflections of history, ecology, and his love for the outdoors. Comanchero Tales: Tall Tales of Treasure For You To Find Vol. 1 by J.S. A work of 6 well written short stories (old dime stories if you will) and 8 hidden treasures taking place in the Rocky Mountains. Each story drops clues to a hidden treasure left by the author. My favorite was “The Saga of Esteban.” As of November 2025 all the treasures have been found. The author is working on Vol. 2 for 2026. I sit with this author and his Fireflies at a campfire somewhere in Colorado every Friday night via Tik Tok.
Katy Essex: Christmas with the Denton Billionaire by Leslie North. I’m a sucker for the Christmas Rom-Coms. Hard pass on this short story series. Plots are ridiculous and so are the characters.
Sarah Essex: Billion Dollar Ransom by James Patterson and Duane Swierczynski. The various twists in the story kept me guessing. Although intense at times, it was an enjoyable read.
Kay McAdam: Isola by Alegra Goodman. I didn’t realize at first that this book was based on a true story of a young woman abandoned in the 18th century on a small island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The description of the harsh seasonal conditions, questions of faith and abandoning “her place in society” in the name of survival are raw, mesmerizing and intriguing. Well written, well worth the read.
