The Marcellus Village Council made quick work of its regular agenda, May 10, with the meeting clocking in at just over fifty-two minutes in length.
While not much new business required attention, the Council did review its annexation plans while continuing to work with the Village attorney on wording for the required resolution and petition that will ultimately be forwarded to the County.
Village President Ron Welburn asked Council members to begin exploring the creation of a combined manager/clerk position for current Village Clerk Jacqueline Terrill. Terrill has been instrumental in the upcoming water project, annexation process, and researching and writing the current Revitalization and Placemaking (RAP) grant application which is due by the end of the month.
In other business, the Council agreed to limit approval of one beer tent during the Bluegill Frolic and granted that approval to the Bluegill Frolic Committee. According to Committee Vice President Mike Nelson, the tent will be located near the intersection of Main and Centre streets.
The Council also approved the Southwest Michigan Dust Control proposal for $2,800. The quote covers two applications on the Village’s gravel alleys and streets during the summer.
Jessica Preston was hired as a new DPW employee who will train with Chris Poulsen and eventually fill his position when Poulsen retires in January 2023. Preston and other new employee Mike Clark both have CDLs which are a requirement for employment. President Pro-Tem Dennis Irwin says the DPW is in good shape and is happy to report that both Preston and Clark are willing to fill in as crossing guards, if and when the need arises.
