Voss Chosen 1st Runner-up in Miss Heart Pageant

On Sunday, February 27, Taylor Palmer of Dowagiac, received the honor of representing her community as the 2022 Miss Heart at Lakeshore High School. The Miss Heart Pageant originated in 1992 offering young women living in communities that do not host a hometown pageant the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Blossomtime.  Some of these communities are Allegan, Decatur, Dowagiac, Paw Paw, Covert, Fennville, Lawton, Mattawan, Marcellus, Three Rivers, Vicksburg, and surrounding communities in Southwest Michigan. Three young ladies and one gentleman competed in the 2022 Miss/Mr Heart Pageant.

As Miss Heart, Palmer will join her sister queens competing for over $20,000 in Scholarships in the Miss /Mr. Blossomtime Pageants.  The 2022 pageants will be held on April 24 and 25 at Lake Michigan College, Mendel Center.

This year’s winner Taylor Palmer is currently a freshman at St. Mary’s College and majoring in Dance and Political Science on a pre-law track with a minor in Social Work . Taylor is the daughter of Sara and Scott Palmer of Dowagiac, MI. 

Earning the title of 1st Runner-Up is Abigail Voss from Marcellus. Abigail is currently a senior at Marcellus High School. After graduating, Abigail plans to earn a bachelor’s degree with a double major in Special Education and Elementary Education from Grand Valley State University. She is Vice President of the National Honor Society and Student Council. She is involved in Marching Band, Orchestra Band, Jazz Band, and Science Olympiad. Abigail is the daughter of DeAnn Voss and the late Michael Voss of Marcellus.

Earning the title of 2nd Runner-Up is Gabrielle Munson of Dowagiac. She currently attends Grand Valley State University where she is studying Computer Science and Art. She is the daughter of Stephanie and Harold Munson of Dowagiac, MI. 

Earning the title of Mr Heart is Artemio Garcia Jr of Paw Paw. He is a senior at Paw Paw High School and plans to attend Grand Valley State University to pursue a degree in Political Science and minor in Business Administration. Artemio is the son of Nereida Leon and Artemio Garcia of Paw Paw, MI.

Also, competing for the title of Miss Teen Blossomtime that evening were 11 contestants ranging in ages from 13 to 15.  Crowned Miss Teen Blossomtime 2022 was Leiah Seawood (below second from right), a sophomore at St. Joseph High School and daughter of Tamika and Leonard Seawood of Benton Harbor, MI. 

Crowned 1st Runner-Up to Miss Teen Blossomtime 2022 was Peighton Mooney (second from left), the daughter of Michele and Wesley Mooney of Stevensville, MI. Crowned 2nd Runner-Up was Ariah Evans (far left), the daughter of Kimberly and Adam Evans of Marcellus, MI. Crowned Miss Congeniality was Aribel Mills (far right), the daughter of Nicole and Dan Mills of Benton Harbor, MI.
