
The Marcellus Varsity Baseball team ended their regular season with two decisive victories over the visiting Fennville Blackhawks.
Fennville came to town Friday, May 26, and left with a 7-3 loss in game one and a 19-4 shellacking in game two.
Although the Blackhawks scored a run in the second and two in the fifth in game one, they couldn’t keep up with the Wildcats who accounted for three runs in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Marcellus pulled away for good with those three runs in the third. In the third, Nate Mihills tripled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, and Brock Buck’s sacrifice fly also scored a run.
Mihills was on the mound for Marcellus going seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out nine and walking one.
Adan Deer and Mihills each had multiple hits in the game. The Wildcats stole eight bases with Dawsen Lehew leading the way with three.
Even though Fennville opened game two with four runs in the first, they were no match for Marcellus who scored multiple runs in each inning of game two.
In the first, Marcellus scored on walks by Buck and Eian O’Neill, and a fielder’s choice by Landen Karn. In the second, the Wildcats tallied six runs in the inning. The rally was led by singles by O’Neill and Karn and a walk by Lehew.
Lehew got the start for Marcellus allowing one hit and four runs over four innings, striking out five. Mihills led the ‘Cats with two hits in three at bats.
Earlier in the week, Marcellus fell to the visiting Lawton Blue Devils, 17-6. Marcellus garnered the lead by scoring four runs in the fifth, but that wasn’t enough as Lawton roared back with six runs in the sixth and eight in the seventh.
Mihills toed the rubber for Marcellus lasting five innings, allowing three hits and two runs, while striking out six and walking one. Lehew threw two inning in relief out of the bullpen.
The Wildcats move onto District action, Saturday, June 3, at Lawrence. They face the Decatur Raiders at high noon.
