Cass County 4-H is partnering with Cass County Parks and Recreation to bring a community-wide youth project day to Dr. T.K. Lawless Park on May 21, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
“Whether kids are 4-H members or not, they are invited to join the fun at the park,” 4-H Program Coordinator, Rennie Witham says. “For those who are not 4-H members, who knows, maybe they will decide it’s pretty neat and will want to join a club.”
Projects that will be included that day will be introductions to tin punch, wood burning, sand art, bead animals, and duct tape. Participants will be allowed to take their craftwork home with them.
While there is no cost to the workshop, there is a park entrance fee of $2 for in-county residents and $3 for out-of- county visitors.
“When Covid hit, our 4-H numbers really suffered since we were not allowed to meet in person,” Witham says, “so we are once again ‘Growing 4-H in Cass County’ with a bit of an upsurge in membership. We are happy to provide opportunities for not only our 4-H’ers to be able work on some projects but share them with our community youth… kids really need things like this right now. And, any time we can partner with our Cass County Parks and Recreation Department, it’s a win-win situation.”
Cass County Parks Director, Scott Wyman echoes Witham’s sentiments, “We love working with the local 4-H program whether it’s programming like this or welcoming their volunteer spirit during our park events like our Spring Egg- stravaganza or our Harvest Fest/Trunk-n-Treat. We are looking forward to many more opportunities to getting our 4- H’ers out in our parks!”
